Nominations Open for 2023 Henry Viscardi Achievement Awards

2023 Henry Viscardi Achievement Awards, Presented by The Viscardi Center

The Viscardi Center is honored to announce nominations for the 2023 Henry Viscardi Achievement Awards are now being accepted. These prestigious Awards were initially presented in 2013 to honor the memory and legacy of the Center’s founder, Dr. Henry Viscardi, Jr. As a distinguished disability advocate, Dr. Viscardi, who wore prosthetic legs himself, served as a disability advisor to eight presidents, from Franklin D. Roosevelt to Jimmy Carter, and established innovative employment and education initiatives for people with disabilities of all ages.

Each year, the Awards aim to celebrate the accomplishments of leaders, advocates, role models, and innovators in the disability community worldwide and highlight their positive influence on society. Since their inception, Viscardi has recognized nearly 90 recipients from over 20 countries. These outstanding individuals have included Judith Heumann, Ali Stroker, Caroline Casey, Rebecca Cokley, Virginia A. Jacko, Tony Coelho, Marlee Matlin, Rory Cooper, Dr. Dinesh Palipana, Neil Jacobson, and General (ret.) Frederick M. The nomination period for the international Awards is now open and the deadline for submissions is Friday, August 4, 2023. Nominees will be evaluated based on various criteria, including the impact of their work. The Awards are open to people of all ages and backgrounds, and self-nominations are also accepted. The 2023 class of recipients will be announced in the fall.

The Viscardi Center, a network of non-profit organizations based in Albertson, NY, provides a lifespan of services that educate, employ, and empower people with disabilities. Its programs and services include Pre-K through High School education (to age 21), school-to-work transition services, vocational training and job placement, digital accessibility services, entrepreneurship, veteran employment and workforce diversification assistance to children, adolescents, and adults with disabilities and businesses.
