Program pairs adult role models with students with disabilities or those “at-risk”
The Viscardi Center’s Mentoring Initiative (VCMI) teams positive adult role models with students, ages 11-17, with a disability or those considered “at-risk”. These one-on-one mentorship pairs empower the youth to lead more fulfilling lives and improve their futures.
It has been shown that young people who have strong, supportive relationships with adults often do better in school, are better able to deal with bullies and stressful situations, and gain the social-emotional skills they need to set and reach goals.
Viscardi’s mentor matches are intended to be meaningful relationships that will provide a multitude of benefits including personal growth, higher self-esteem, self-awareness, community involvement, and improved communication skills.
A child/adolescent may be enrolled in the program by completing the VCMI Mentee Referral Form or contact Michelle Licata at 516.465.1415 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
