The Viscardi Center President’s Luncheon, graciously hosted by Mutual of America, provided an opportunity for John D. Kemp, President and CEO, to discuss the importance of increasing employment opportunities for people with disabilities. It also gave Board members, business leaders, community service organizations and government officials an opportunity to network and share information about the work they are doing to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities. After sharing a story of a gentleman the Center assisted by providing job training and employment placement services following his life changing injury, Kemp noted, “Our goal is to get every person with a disability that wants to work a job. We need the business community’s help if we are going to reach this goal.”
Kemp also provided the guests with a few suggestions as to what they could do to increase the labor force participation rate of people with disabilities, “Make a hiring policy change at your company and interview at least one qualified person with a disability for every open position. Offer an internship to a college student with a disability this summer. Join our Business Advisory Committee.”
Guests left the Luncheon motivated to find ways that they could increase employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
