The Viscardi Center, a network of non-profit organizations providing a lifespan of services that educate, employ and empower children and adults with disabilities, announced Michael N. Vittorio, President & CEO of The First National Bank of Long Island, has joined its Board of Directors. Vittorio, a resident of Merrick, has been actively involved with the Center for several years and honored at its annual Celebrity Sports Night fundraiser in 2013.

“I am honored to be serving as director of The Viscardi Center. The work that the Henry Viscardi School does, and the wide range of services the Center provides, help enrich the lives of so many wonderful children, adolescents and adults,” said Vittorio. “The First National Bank of Long Island has been, and will remain, a strong supporter of The Viscardi Center.”

Vittorio and The First National Bank of Long Island’s senior management team and staff have played vital roles in helping to build financial literacy and workforce preparedness in the students and adults with disabilities The Viscardi Center serves. Activities have included visits by students to local branches, the hosting of Career Days that let youth explore a wide range of careers and learn about all aspects of operating a financial institution and conducting practice interviews with adults in the Center’s vocational training and employment placement services to further prepare them for job searches. One of the highlights of the relationship is the bankers vs. students wheelchair basketball games throughout the year.

Founded by Dr. Henry Viscardi, Jr., who served as disability advisor to eight U.S. Presidents and became one of the world’s leading advocates, The Viscardi Center provides K through High School education, school-to-work transition services, vocational training, career counseling and employment placement, assistive technology, adapted driver education and workforce diversification assistance to children, adolescents, and adults with disabilities and businesses. A global leader, it employs more than 300 professionals, including experts in education, human resources and technology.

The First National Bank of Long Island, the Bank “Where Everyone Knows Your Name®”, is the sole subsidiary of The First National Bank of Long Island Corporation (NASDAQ: FLIC).
