Jaime Huerta Peralta is an architect, professor, writer, and disability rights advocate living in Peru. Using his expertise and personal experience, he has worked to design accessible workplaces and districts in the city of Lima. He currently teaches courses at three universities and has authored several books about accessible design.
Peralta started his career as an officer and pilot in the Air Force Academy of Peru while studying architecture and graduating from an MBA program. Later, after retiring from the Air Force and spending 10 years in the financial sector, his life was changed at the age of 45 when became a paraplegic following a car accident.
Peralta adapted to his acquired disability and became determined to improve the quality of life of others in the disability community. He has taught has a university professor for the last 20 years. When his students see a person using a wheelchair, he hopes the experience in his classroom will encourage them to see the person first.
