The National Business & Disability Council (NBDC) at The Viscardi Center is an employer membership organization and comprehensive resource for disability employment best practices. Its members are predominantly corporations and Federal government employers committed to diversity. By becoming a member of NBDC, companies can proactively strengthen and diversify their workforce as well as comply with the requirements of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other federal regulations. NBDC can also assist companies in marketing to the 56.7 million Americans with disabilities and diversify their supply chains.

Did you know…
The July 2014 labor force participation rate for people with disabilities, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), was 19.4%, compared to 69.4% for people without disabilities. The labor force participation rate is the percentage of people who are working or actively looking for work. You can help us change these numbers!

OFCCP Section 503 Rule Change to Improve Job Opportunities for
Individuals with Disabilities in Effect

The Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act rule changes announced last year by the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) is now in effect. The changes impose significant obligations on federal contractors and subcontractors to show they are actively working towards building and maintaining a diverse, and inclusive, workforce.

NBDC Launches “Marketing Anthropology Project”

The National Business & Disability Council at The Viscardi Center launched its “Marketing Anthropology Project” to guide companies in developing marketing strategies and tactics to reach people with disabilities, as well as creative messaging that will resonate with the disability community. The National Business & Disability Council (NBDC) at The Viscardi Center announced an enhanced Job Posting Service to assist its member companies in recruiting qualified people with disabilities for positions they are actively seeking to fill. Read more.

Office of Management and Budget (OMB) approves form for voluntary self-ID
Business Meeting
The OMB recently approved the revised form for voluntary self-identification of disability status by applicants and employees with disabilities who work for organizations covered by Section 503 regulations. The form also includes a reasonable accommodation notice and provides examples. View the new form here. Click here for information on the new Section 503 regulations.
